Harbor Hounds will have tails wagging on Sept. 10

Dogs will have their day again in downtown Gig Harbor on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Harbor Hounds, a charity dog walk and community fair, returns to Skanise Brothers Park on Harborview Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Harbor Hounds is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday. Proceeds support a variety of the club’s programs, among them Communities in Schools, Food Backpacks 4 Kids, the Permission to Start Dreaming Foundation, Harbor Hope Center and more.

Harbor Hounds returns after missing the past two summers due to Covid-19 precautions.

It includes a dog walk, a dog agility course, vendors and face paintings. Canine contests recognize the pups who are best dressed, the best tail-wagger, have the best tricks and who can best sit-and-stay.

And the best kisser.

“Those of us with dogs have all been the recipient of many dog kisses, or should I say a lick with their tongue,” said Marilyn Hopper, who organizes the event for the Rotary. “The dog who provides their owner the best ‘kiss’ wins this event.”

Registration for the event costs $15, plus $5 to enter a contest. You can also preregister here. Most people register at the event.

“It really is a great deal of fun simply because there are so many dogs at it,” Hoppen said. “As I have heard it said, dogs are not are whole life, but they make our lives whole. If you like dogs, you will love this event!”
