Gig Harbor Now is posting profiles featuring the Students of Distinction being honored by the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation. Peers, teachers or parents nominate students, who must be a graduating senior at a Peninsula School District school. A panel of community leaders selects students to be honored in one of seven categories: academics; athletics; career and technical excellence; community service; music, arts and drama; overcoming adversity; and science and technology.

These students will be celebrated during a banquet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Ocean5, 5268 Point Fosdick Dr.

Aidan Miller found his calling early at Peninsula High School – though it wasn’t in a textbook or on the field, but through the structured halls of NJROTC. What started as a class soon became a compass for his future, pointing him toward a life of service and leadership.

Over four years, Aidan immersed himself in every opportunity NJROTC had to offer. He led as a Platoon Commander, Academics Officer, and Athletics Officer, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade (O2). These roles weren’t always clearly defined, especially with the program still growing, which made his leadership journey all the more formative. He learned to think on his feet, guide peers through uncertainty, and lead with humility – skills he’ll carry with him as he heads to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to pursue a degree in Kinesiology through Army ROTC.

Aidan’s achievements reflect a rare blend of discipline, athleticism, and academic strength. From earning the prestigious Military Order of World Wars “Cadet of the Year” award to placing in national NJROTC athletic competitions, his list of accolades is extensive. But it’s the deeper lessons – like learning how to listen, build trust, and bring out the best in others – that mean the most to him.

For Aidan, hands-on learning was critical in shaping his goals. NJROTC gave him real-life exposure to the demands and values of military service, from color guard and current events drills to his favorite: physical fitness. And throughout it all, one mentor stood out – Command Master Chief Robert Stockton. “He genuinely took the time to understand my interests and goals,” Aidan reflects. “Without his guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Whether it’s leading a team or planning a mission, Aidan is prepared to move forward with clarity, resilience, and an unwavering sense of purpose.
