Gig Harbor Now is posting profiles featuring the Students of Distinction being honored by the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation. A panel of community leaders selects students to be honored in one of seven categories: academics; athletics; career and technical excellence; community service; music, arts and drama; overcoming adversity; and science and technology.

These students will be celebrated during a banquet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Ocean5, 5268 Point Fosdick Dr.

Tyler Givot’s academic journey has been defined by his unwavering dedication, impressive intellectual curiosity, and leadership both inside and outside the classroom. With a remarkable 4.0 GPA and a class rank of 1, Tyler’s commitment to excellence is evident. His goal is to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering, possibly with a second major in Aerospace or Computer Science, and he’s already been accepted to some of the most prestigious institutions in the nation, including MIT, where he hopes to continue his academic career.

Tyler’s academic accomplishments are numerous, and they speak to both his intellectual aptitude and his ability to push the boundaries of knowledge. In addition to his exceptional SAT and ACT scores – 1520 and 33 respectively – Tyler has completed 15 AP and honors courses. His achievements also include earning a Harvard transcript with an A in Micro-Economics and receiving the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, further exemplifying his diverse academic capabilities. Tyler is especially proud of his progression in mathematics, which began in sixth grade. His teacher’s recognition of his early talent led him to self-study Algebra II and Trigonometry before entering high school, eventually taking all three AP math classes offered at Peninsula High School. This work ethic has fueled his continued passion for math, culminating in his enjoyment of self-studying multi-variable calculus as a senior.

Outside of the classroom, Tyler is a standout leader and athlete. A four-year varsity player in Water Polo, Swimming, and Lacrosse, Tyler is known for his athleticism and leadership. He has been the captain of both the Swim team for three years and the Water Polo team during his senior year. His athletic achievements include competing at the state level in each of these sports, proving his talent and drive. Tyler also plays three instruments – Piano, Guitar, and Saxophone – and was a member of the Peninsula High School Band in his freshman year. His dedication to excellence in both academics and athletics demonstrates a well-rounded individual who leads by example.

Tyler’s ability to adapt and grow is evident in his approach to challenges. One such example is his experience with his AP Research paper. Despite facing scheduling conflicts and difficulties in obtaining research permissions, Tyler demonstrated resilience and flexibility, ultimately adjusting his focus to successfully complete the assignment.

Above all, Tyler credits his father with inspiring his passion for learning. His dad was always there to answer his questions and guide him in problem-solving. One particularly memorable experience was building a potato launcher together as a demonstration for projectile motion, cementing his love for learning and problem-solving that would influence his academic and personal growth throughout the years.

Tyler’s dedication to his academic, athletic, and personal growth has shaped him into a leader and an exceptional student.
