It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother Dr. Harold Eugene “Buddy” Boyd on February 3rd, 2025 in Puyallup, WA.

Born September 20th 1950 in Pullman, WA, the fourth child of Lola Mae (Moye) Boyd and Harold Dewitt Boyd, Jr. Sometime during his younger years his mother opted to affectionately nickname him Buddy so as not to get everyone confused when calling for his dad, Harold. Buddy graduated from Dayton High School in June of 1968 as Valedictorian of his class. In the fall of that year, he enrolled at Washington State University and also pledged into Alpha Gamma Ro fraternity. Buddy graduated in June of 1972 with a Pre-Medical Degree. The fall of that year, he was accepted into University of Washington School of Medicine, completing his studies and earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1976.

The following fall after medical school he began his residency in Redding, CA until 1980. After his residency Buddy started his chosen medical career in Emergency Medicine. In 1982, while working at Kuakini Medical Center he met the love of his life, a travel Emergency Department nurse, Linda Gehlbach. They moved back to the mainland in 1983, settling in Gig Harbor, WA. This is also where Buddy started his lifetime career at Tacoma General Hospital.

Buddy and Linda married on August 18th, 1984 in Sellersburg, Indiana and over the next seven years went on to have three daughters Breanna (1985), Meredyth (1987), and Tiffany(1991). Buddy was also given the ultimate gift of continued life in 1998 by his nephew Jason Boyd, when Jason so graciously donated him a kidney. Buddy retired in 2015 after a 32 year long career at Tacoma General Emergency Department. He was well loved by all of his coworkers and affectionately the favorite doctor to the nurses. Buddy went on to enjoy retirement with family and friends.

Buddy was a family man who worked hard to give his girls and wife everything he felt they deserved, as he believed his family was his greatest accomplishment. Buddy was survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Linda Boyd; daughters Breanna Boyd (John-Allen Moore), Meredyth Sealock (Trevor Sealock), Tiffany Boyd, along with two grandchildren Declan and Sloan Sealock. He is also survived by two sisters, Dr Anna Marie Amudi (Mohamed Omar AlAmudi), Cheryl Nadine Boyd (Dr Sam Burstein), and younger brother Carl Robert Boyd (Karlene Boyd) along with many nieces and nephews. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents Lola Mae Boyd and Harold Dewitt Boyd, Jr., along with his older brother Leroy Dewitt Boyd.

A celebration of life will be held in July at Fox Island Chapel on Echo Bay at Fox Island, WA. All those blessed by his presence are welcome to attend, please contact the family for further details.
