Lane closures expected on two bridges during week of July 7
The Washington State Department of Transportation is warning about lane closures on bridges at both ends of the Gig Harbor Peninsula during the week of June 7.
Purdy Bridge
Work crews will close a lane on the Purdy Bridge overnight July 7 and 8. Traffic will alternate while crew repair joints in the bridge deck.
Purdy Bridge work is scheduled for 9 p.m. Monday, July 7, until 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 8; and from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 9.
The bridge was built in 1936 and rebuilt in 1966, according to WSDOT.

Narrows Bridge
The department also plans single-lane closures on the westbound (toward Gig Harbor) Narrows Bridge from July 7 through July 10 for routine inspections. Closures are expected from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 7 through 10.
Only one lane will close at a time. Work will be in the right lanes Monday and Tuesday and the left lanes Wednesday and Thursday.
A WSDOT news release said workers will use “a specialized under-bridge inspection truck” to complete the job.
WSDOT noted that it scheduled the lane closures for after the Fourth of July holiday and to avoid the busy afternoon commute toward Gig Harbor.
During a similar routine inspection of the elder of the two Narrows Bridges in February 2024, workers discovered problems that required immediate repairs. Major traffic headaches ensued.
