Letter to the Editor | Stealing campaign signs is a crime

Posted on September 24th, 2025 By: Jo Seidl

I live at the South end of Key Peninsula. I have been very frustrated by the theft of political signs supporting Senator Deb Krishnadasan. This problem started back in July and has persisted since then. I recently wrote Representative Michelle Caldier asking her to rein in her supporters. Following is the content of that letter:

“I live at the South end of Key Peninsula. I have been very frustrated by the theft of all signs supporting Senator Deb Krishnadasan in the area South of Key Center. This problem started back in July and has persisted since then.

I ask that you send a strong message to your local supporters reminding them that removing or defacing a political sign is a crime punishable under RCW 9A.20.021. Remind them that their overzealous and criminal behavior reflects very poorly on you as a candidate, and damages your reputation in the community. ”

Hopefully, bringing public attention to this uncivil behavior will raise everyone’s awareness that it’s not just rude to steal political signs, it’s actually a crime.
