Letter to the Editor | Council to review ordinance on parks, noise
There is a lot going on in our town just now and with November elections right around the corner voters should be paying attention.
On Monday, September 29 the City Council will be holding a meeting at which several items will be discussed including a first reading of Ordinance 1550, creating a new Gig Harbor Municipal Code Title 11 relating to Parks, Docks and Special events. The purpose of this new Title 11 is to consolidate all codes pertaining to Parks in one place, while also making some clarifying updates to Parks related codes.
Of special interest to those City of Gig Harbor residents living near one of our parks (especially in the North Gig Harbor area) should be sections 11.01.080 and 11.01.100.
11.01.080 Noise
Noise from audio equipment or speakers in parks shall not be heard more than 75 feet away in public parks, except for:
A. Scheduled athletic games at Gig Harbor Sports Complex properties.
B. Authorized special events that have received a special event permit.
11.01.100 Park operating hours
A. All city parks shall be closed from dusk to dawn unless otherwise provided for in the municipal code, a lease or rental agreement, or posted by the city of Gig Harbor.
B. It is unlawful to enter or remain on any park property while closed unless operating under the authority of a special event or special use permit.
C. Gig Harbor Sports Complex facilities with lighting must post operating hours ateach site. Hours may be governed by a facility use agreement or management agreement with the facility operator.
