Harbor Happenings | School bands perform at Jazz Night, festival
The Gig Harbor High School and Goodman Middle School jazz bands will perform Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Peninsula School District’s Jazz Night. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at Peninsula High School, 14105 Purdy Dr. NW.
Both bands will also play at the second annual Quincy Square Jazz Festival in Bremerton on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 5 and 6. Goodman will play at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Olympic College Performing Arts Center, 1600 Chester Ave. The GHHS band plays at 3:40 p.m. Friday at the OC Performing Arts Center.
The festival honors jazz legend Quincy Jones, who once lived in Bremerton and went on to receive multiple Grammys and other awards. This year, 20 high school jazz bands, seven middle school bands and 12 jazz choirs from across the state will compete. The top three bands and choirs will perform that evening at a gala event at the Roxy Theater, in Bremerton’s newly named Quincy Square.
Judges will present a clinic for the bands and masters classes for various instruments and vocalists. Purchase festival tickets here.
