Letter to the Editor | Infrastructure must come first

Posted on February 3rd, 2026 By: Barbara Moss

Reading the letter from Rose, I will say I share her concerns.

The downtown area is already a traffic and parking nightmare. If multi family housing is allowed, and height restrictions waived, the ramifications will be severe. It seems this city council and mayor serve the developers as they most certainly do not represent the views and interests of the residents … which I actually thought was their job.

It is my understanding that we have a 20-years period to comply with GMA regulations. If I’m incorrect please let me know. If this is in fact the case why are we building without first addressing infrastructure? Obviously government demands have a way of changing, so why the need to push this overdevelopment?

It seems there is a frantic push for developers to build with no concern regarding current residents, environment or the historic integrity of the harbor.
