Harbor Happenings | Quilts tell a story at library event

Posted on February 24th, 2026 By:

Tacoma quilt artist Freddie Smith will talk about how she turns scraps of fabric into works of art at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Gig Harbor Library, 4424 Point Fosdick Dr.

Smith’s quilts celebrate her African-American heritage, some in the Gee’s Bend style of quilts created by generations of Black women from repurposed materials in the rural community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Many of Smith’s quilts will be on display during her discussion and she’ll talk about the stories they tell. The event is free and all ages are welcome.
