Gig Harbor author Matt Dinniman crawls all the way to No. 1

Gig Harbor author Matt Dinniman hit the New York Times Best Seller list in two categories last week. A Parade of Horribles, the eighth book in his popular Dungeon Crawler Carl series, claimed the top spot in both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Hardcover Fiction.

“We did it! Thank you, everyone!” Dinniman shared on social media. “My first #1, and I did it in two categories. Hardcover and combined.”

On tour in Tucson when the news broke, Dinniman said he knew the competition for the top spot was tough.

“I’d already resigned myself that we’d have to wait for maybe next time,” he said. “When my editor called me, I knew what it was before I answered because she never calls unless it’s something IMPORTANT. She was laughing and shouting because this was her first number one as well.”

Gig Harbor’s Invitation Bookshop quickly sold out of A Parade of Horribles. “You all are the best fandom, but you sold us out of our significant number of extra copies in about a day,” owner Allyson Howard wrote on the bookstore’s website. Additional copies of Dinniman’s books are on order.

Because of his tour schedule, Dinniman had little time to celebrate the milestone. Still, he noted one change that comes with the achievement. “The publishers have to change all the book covers now. It’s pretty cool.”
