Letter to the Editor | Election alarmism is uncalled for

In her May 27 Town Hall event, Congresswoman Emily Randall said that she was not being “hyperbolic” or “alarmist” about upcoming elections but that is exactly what she was doing.

We have never failed to have free and fair elections in this country despite extreme partisan differences such as we have today. Opinions are free and she simply is expressing her own partisan opinion that this election could be our last “free” one while presenting no evidence or rationale for that, except fear mongering about the current president and his frequent comments about elections.

Our founders built in safeguards at both the federal and, especially, the state level to prevent dishonesty or fraud in elections. But ensuring that happens takes watchful diligence from all three branches of government — the judicial, executive and legislative. They all must play a role and have done so.

The 2024 Presidential election resulted in a clear outcome with little question about how the process unfolded. Everything worked as it is supposed to despite several differences in state ballot counting and management. It can be reasonable for rational people to question results when we read of large containers of ballots being dropped into an Election Center weeks after the polls and election center have closed — possibly, ballots that suddenly change the course of the ballot-counting at a very late date.

However, to rational people, Randall’s alarmism is uncalled for.
