State Department of Transportation announces emergency lane closure near Purdy Bridge
The Washington State Department of Transportation will close a lane of traffic on Highway 302 near the Purdy Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 17.
The closure will be near Tyee Drive NW on the Purdy side of the bridge. WSDOT said work crews need to repair asphalt at the bridge’s east approach.
The department warned drivers to expect delays of up to 30 minutes in each direction during the closure. Traffic will alternate in the lane that remains open.
“WSDOT recognizes that travel will be challenging on SR 302 between the Key Peninsula and Gig Harbor during repairs,” the department wrote in a statement sent shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday. “The emergent work is being performed after the morning commute and as soon as materials are available.”
The bridge was built in 1936 and rebuilt in 1966. An average of 24,000 vehicles use it every day.
