Letter to the Editor | Developments will put a squeeze on Burnham roundabout
This 77-house project by Garrette Homes might just be the straw that breaks the back of the Borgen/Burnham roundabout.
Has the City of Gig Harbor studied the potential congestion this new density will add to this critical traffic circle? This is in addition to Trailside/Timberwalk and North Annex projects. If Burnham northbound gets clogged from Harbor Winds added traffic so does Highway 16 northbound ( or westbound for those without a compass) due to cars waiting to exit at Borgen.
Without a plan to mitigate this inevitable congestion, Garrette will need to rename the highway-hugging plat “Exhaust Winds” to maintain truth in advertising. And St Anthony’s Hospital will need to swap parking lots for helipads.
City and county officials should declare a moratorium on new developments like this until longterm and widespread contingency plans are in place.
