Harbor Happenings | Final Summer Sounds, Waterfront Farmers Market are this week
The final Summer Sounds at Skansie concert of 2026 starts at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25. The headliner is Non Jovi (a Bon Jovi tribute band), with the United by Music band opening.

The final Waterfront Farmers Market of the summer runs from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Skansie Park. Lankin will provide the music.
A new fall farmers market launches Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the parking lot at B’s Bagels, 3308 Uddenberg Lane.

Airport Day
Tacoma Narrows Airport Day is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, with free flights for kids, aircraft fly-bys, antique airplane displays, STEM activities, food trucks and more.
The Young Eagles organization, which works with kids ages 8 to 17 who want to learn about flying, sponsors the flights. Before each 15- to 20-minute flight, pilots will explain flight maps, discuss how airplanes fly, and talk about the aircraft’s instrument panel and other components. The airport is at 1202 26th Ave. NW.

FISH celebrates 50
Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank celebrates its 50th anniversary with an all-invited party from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Sehmel Homestead Park, 10123 78th Ave. NW. The party will include live music, games, refreshments and reminiscing.
Ron and Jan Coen founded FISH in 1976 to support the basic needs of their less-fortunate neighbors. Their mission became “neighbor helping neighbor.” Since then, FISH has provided $1.6 million worth of meals to more than 10,000 families and nearly $350,000 in financial aid that helped keep people in their homes.
While not required, an RSVP is appreciated so FISH can plan accordingly.
Waterfront walks
This summer’s weekly guided waterfront walks end soon:
The final Skiffs to Spirits walking tour starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Harbor History Museum, 4121 Harborview Dr. The walk ends at 7Seas Brewing, about 1.5 miles. Guides provide information about Gig Harbor’s past and present, including colorful stories about the city’s social life before and after Prohibition. It’s free, but registration is required here.
This summer’s last Wonders of the Waterfront walk starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Donkey Creek Park, 8714 N. Harborview Dr. Harbor WildWatch naturalists lead the 1.5 mile walk and discuss the diversity of life and the natural history of the waterfront.
Harbor WildWatch naturalists lead a walk along Jerisich Pier at Skansie Brothers Park at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, to talk about what’s in the water beneath the pier. It’s free, but donations are always welcome.
Book discussion
The Gig Harbor Literary Society will meet to discuss “The Girls of Atomic City” by Denise Kiernan at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Harbor History Museum. It’s the story of the thousands of young women who worked as part of the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, during World War II. They only learned the nature of their work after the bombs were dropped on Japan in August 1944. Book discussions are free and all are welcome whether or not you’ve read the book.
Fun and games
Locust Cider hosts trivia at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at 3207 57th St. Ct. The cidery also has Cider and Salsa at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Lessons are $20 and just dancing is $15. Buy tickets here.
The Beer Vault, 14004 Purdy Dr., hosts Trivia Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays. The Vault will host a Seahawks watch party at 5 p.m. Aug. 28 for the team’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ocean5 has trivia on at 6 p.m. Thursdays at 5268 Point Fosdick Dr. NW.
The Float, 14511 Sherman Dr. NW in Purdy, has karaoke from 8 p.m. to midnight Fridays.

Kimball Coffeehouse will team up with Invitation Bookshop to host a silent reading party at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Bring your book, have a cup and just sit and read. The coffee shop is at 6659 Kimball Dr. Suite A102.
Live music
Kimball Coffeeshop has an open mic on Thursdays, with sign-ups at 5:30 and music starting at 6 p.m.
Guitarist Yasmin Williams performs at this week’s Garden of Peace music session at at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Williams was named one of NPR music’s Breakthrough Artists of 2021. Tickets are $25 here.

Several Gig Harbor musicians will perform at the Hood Canal Salmon Center’s Folk on the Estuary event in Belfair on Sunday, Aug. 30. Linda Nicole Blair will play at 1 p.m.; Sweet Mary Farr at 1:30 p.m.; and Lawrence Lambert and Elaine Dempsey at 2 p.m. Suggested donation is $12 for adults or $6 for kids ages 13 to 17. The Salmon Center is at 600 NE Roessel Road in Belfair.
At the movies
The Gig Harbor Film Festival’s Monday Movie for August is “Steal this Story, Please,” showing at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown. It’s the story of journalist Amy Goodman, who has reported some of the most consequential stories of our time. Get Monday Movie tickets here.
This week’s SummerFest movie is “Trolls,” showing at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 25 and 26; and 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 27. Starting Friday, Aug. 28 it’s “Happy Feet.” Showtimes are at 10 a.m. Friday through Thursday, Aug. 28 through Sept. 3. SummerFest movies are just $3.50.
Friday’s Fright Night film is “Sleepy Hollow” (1999) showing at 8:45 p.m. Aug. 28. Friday Night Fright tickets are just $6.
The Galaxy Classic Movie on Monday, Aug. 31 is “All the President’s Men” (1976) starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Showtime is 10 a.m. Classic movie tickets are just $5.
Civic engagement
The Gig Harbor Planning Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St., to take public comment on proposed updates to the city’s Comprehensive Plan regarding future housing requirements. Learn more here.
