Taste of Gig Harbor among events planned for this weekend

The Taste of Gig Harbor, a great place to sample the area’s culinary offerings as well as the biggest annual fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor, returns Saturday, May 7, at Point Fosdick Antique Airplane Hangar.

The theme is “Roaring Back into the ’20s.”

In addition to food, the event includes an auction fundraiser. More than 100 items are up for auction, ranging from Mother’s Day gift packages to Tacoma Rainiers tickets to a week in a condo in Puerto Vallarta. Online bidding is available for those who can’t attend in person.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. The Point Fosdick Antique Airplane Hangar is located at 1108 26th Ave NW, Gig Harbor. Tickets cost $85.

A few other events happening this weekend include:

Mother-son and father-daughter dances

PenMet Parks is hosting a Mother-Son Dance on Friday, May 6, and a Father-Daughter dance on Saturday, May 7. Both events are set for 4:30-9 p.m. at Ocean5, 5268 Point Fosdick Drive. “Under the Sea” is the theme.

Tickets cost $30 per parent-child combo, with tickets for additional children available for $15. The dances are named in the style of traditional events held in the community, but families of all kinds are welcome.

Preregistration is required and tickets will not be sold at the door. Purchase tickets at https://penmetparks.org/.

Watch out for bicyclists

The Cascade Bicycle Club is hosting its Gig Harbor Tour Lite Friday through Sunday (May 6-8).

Riders will be biking between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. Plans call for a ride to Port Orchard on Friday, a Point Defiance-Vashon Island jaunt Saturday, and a trip out to Fox Island on Sunday. The rides begin and end at the Best Western on Kimball Drive in Gig Harbor.

Tickets cost $150 for club members, $170 for nonmembers and $40 for youths. A limited number are available and registration is required. Click here for information and to check availability.

The weekend of May 14-15 is shaping up to be a big one.

  • The Gig Harbor Beer Fest returns to Uptown on Saturday, May 14. The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. at the Uptown Gig Harbor Pavilion, 4701 Point Fosdick Dr. Tickets cost $27, with proceeds benefiting the Gig Harbor Kiwanis Club. Get tickets here.
  • Gigging Up the Harbor, the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance’s sixth annual downtown cleanup event, is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 14, starting at Skansie Brothers Park. More information here.
  • The Tides Tavern Classic Boat Show is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 14-15 at the downtown institution at 2925 Harborview Dr. More information here.
