Harbor Happenings | Come out of your shell and grab some crab
The Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s annual Crab Feed takes place Saturday, April 18, at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club.

In addition to piles of fresh, all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab, the feast also includes salad, pasta, bread and dessert – plus live Celtic music by The Foundlings, raffles, a free bib and a no-host bar. Bring your own crab-crackers and choose from two seatings: 3:30 to 5 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.
Tickets cost $60 for adults, $25 for kids ages 6 to 12 or $10 those younger than 6. Proceeds support Greater Gig Harbor Foundation programs. The Yacht Club is at 8209 Stinson Ave. Buy tickets here.

Find this week’s sasquatch
PenMet Parks’ Great Sasquatch Hunt moves to Sunrise Beach Park this week.
Five sasquatches are hiding in the park. Use each sasquatch’s stamp to mark your passport, and when you’ve found all five, turn in your passport at the PenMet Recreation Center, 2524 14th Ave. NW for a prize.
PenMet posts clues about Bigfoot’s hiding places on its website every Wednesday. Get a passport at the park or download one here. The park at 10015 Sunrise Beach Dr. NW is open from 7 a.m. to dusk.
Apron-making party
Make a vintage-style apron – like those included in the History Museum’s “Hostess with the Mostest” exhibit – at a workshop sponsored by Creative Little studios/Stitch-a-Roo. Workshops are from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, April 15 through 17, and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The $60 registration fee covers a wide selection of fabrics and use of the shop’s sewing machines, with 50% of each fee going to the museum. Registration is required here.

At the library
The Gig Harbor Library, 4424 Point Fosdick Dr., hosts several kid-oriented activities this week: Story Yoga takes place from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, using the story of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” with all the characters being yoga poses.
Also on Wednesday, April 15, Random Fandom celebrates the “My Little Pony” story with games, trivia and crafts from 4 to 5 p.m.
The library’s Science Explorers group meets at 4 p.m. Monday, April 20. This month’s theme is owls, with dissecting owl pellets as the activity. Library programs are free.

Meet author Julie Farley at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Invitation Book Shop, 3119 Judson St., Unit A for a discussion about her latest book “The Housewives of Greensea Island.” RSVP here.
Beach walk
Join Harbor WildWatch staff from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Purdy sand spit, 7726 Highway 302, for the season’s first low tide beach walk. See saltwater creatures like sea stars, crabs, sea anemones and more, and learn good beach etiquette and how to protect our marine ecosystem. It’s free but donations of $2 per person or $5 per family are appreciated. Meet at the top of the boat launch at 1:30 p.m. and dress for the weather. Get more information here.
Forest stewardship
Learn about forest stewardship during a tour of the YMCA’s Camp Seymour from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 19. The 134-acre camp has been in operation since 1907 and many of the trees are more than a century old. The camp’s foresters and naturalists will lead the free tour, talking about thinning, root rot management, hazard tree removal and tree planting. Camp Seymour is located at 9725 Cramer Rd. Summer camp sign-up
The Gig Harbor BoatShop’s Junior Skippers and Junior Shipwrights summer camps for kids age 7 to 13 feature hands-on learning in the BoatShop and on the water. Several sessions will be held in June and July for ages 7 to 8, 9 to 10 and 11 to 13. Tuition is $525 for each session.
Also in July, the BoatShop will offer a Maritime Adventures course for middle school kids. BoatShop summer camps fill-up quickly. Get information and register here.
Lego drive
The city of Gig Harbor is collecting Lego sets for kids and teens at Seattle Children’s Hospital who are dealing with serious illnesses. Drop off new, unopened Lego sets at the Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St. Click here for more information about the drive that runs through May 29.
Lacrosse clinic
The Gig Harbor non-contact lacrosse clinic for kids grades K–2 is now accepting registrations. The four-week clinic is open to boys and girls living within the Peninsula School District. Camps take place at Swift Water elementary field on four Sundays, April 26 through May 17. Registration is $100 here.

Play Trivia Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 14 at Hop Pharm, 3216 Judson St.
Ocean5 has Trivia Night at 6 p.m. Thursdays. All ages are welcome. Ocean5 is at 5268 Point Fosdick Dr.
Create your own one-of-a-kind masterpiece using colored crushed glass from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Locust Cider, 3207 57th St. Ct. (next to the Inn at Gig Harbor). No experience is necessary. Your ticket includes all the tools needed, many colors of crushed glass, a wood frame and step-by-step guidance. Tickets are $45 for a 6-inch mini-frame project or $60 for a 12-inch frame project, here.
Hidden Harbor Wine Library hosts a Corks and Kernels wine and popcorn paring Thursday, April 16. Learn “the science of snacks” and why salt and savory seasonings make wine flavors explode. Six wines will be paired with five custom-seasoned popcorn flights. Tickets are $475 per person. There are two sessions – at 4:30 or 6 p.m. Sign up for either session here. Live music
Kevin Cummings plays a soulful mix of originals and covers at Olalla Winery, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 17. Tickets are $20. Olalla Winery hosts Boots and Bubbly, country line dancing led by Dancing Danielle, from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The $20 ticket includes instruction and a glass of bubbly. The Flashback Cinema movie at the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown on Wednesday, April 16, is “E.T. The Extra Terrestrial” showing at 10:30 a.m. At 1:15 p.m. Sunday, April 19, it’s “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” with Matthew Broderick as the high school senior who raises playing hooky to an art form. Flashback movies are just $5.
The Galaxy will show the 1950’s classic film “The Searchers,” starring John Wayne, at 10 a.m. Monday, April 20. Classic movies are just $5.
Also Monday, April 20, the Galaxy will show a Mystery Movie at 7 p.m., where the movie title isn’t revealed until showtime. Mystery movies are just $5.
Civic engagement
Gig Harbor Public Works Director Jeff Langhelm will talk about the city’s water, sewer and stormwater systems at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Eddon Boatyard house, 3805 Harborview Dr. The free event is presented by Engage Gig Harbor.
The city of Gig Harbor will host a presentation by the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at the Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St. The presentation is about helping people who may be in abusive relationships, including signs to look for, what to say and not say, and who to contact for help. The Crystal Judson Family Justice Center was created to honor Crystal Judson Brame, who was murdered in Gig Harbor in 2003 by her husband, David Brame, who was Tacoma’s chief of police.
The Gig Harbor City Council meets for a study session at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16. Tentative agenda items include discussion of a feasibility study regarding manganese in the city’s water system, and an overview of two residential rental properties owned by the city, one on Wilkinson Farm, the other on Soundview Drive adjacent to Soundview Forest. The meeting will be held at the Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St. and can be viewed online here.
