Harbor Happenings | Sasquatch lurks at Harbor Family Park

PenMet Parks’ Great Sasquatch Hunt is at Harbor Family Park this week. Pick up a passport at the park and find the five Sasquatches hiding there. Use each critters’ stamp to mark your passport.

When you find all five Sasquatches, turn in your passport at the PenMet Recreation Center, 2524 14th Ave. NW for a prize. PenMet will post clues about Bigfoot’s hiding places in Harbor Family Park on Wednesday, April 8. Harbor Family Park is at 6620 32nd St. NW. On April 15, Sasquatch moves to Sunrise Beach Park.

Sasquatch may be hiding in a PenMet Park near you.

KGI Watershed meeting

The Kitsap-Gig Harbor-Islands (KGI) Watershed group meets at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, via Zoom to hear presentations from Kitsap and Pierce counties, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health District and other organizations. The topic is “Going from Data to Making a Difference,” focusing on how sharing research data can improve policymaking decisions.

Crescent Creek Garden work party

Volunteers from the Crescent Valley Alliance will tidy up the Native Habitat Demonstration Garden at Crescent Creek Park at 9:30 a.m. They will battle invasive weeds, plant new trees and fix fences. Dress for the weather, including work gloves and sturdy shoes or boots.

Book club

The Gig Harbor Literary Society meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Harbor History Museum to discuss “The German Wife” by Australian writer Kelly Rimmer. All are welcome to join the conversation whether or not you’ve read the book.

‘Real Housewives’

Author Marie Bostwick and Invitation Bookshop owner Allyson Howard will discuss “Real Housewives in the Age of Betty Friedan” at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Harbor History Museum.

Bostick is the author of “The Book Club for Troublesome Women” and other novels. The event ties in with the museum’s current exhibition, “The Hostess with the Mostess: Making Much with What’s at Hand.” The show was inspired by a collection of aprons that belonged to the late Helen Neilsen Johnson Bates, and grew into a reflection on the remarkable things that have transpired as a result of women getting together at kitchen tables. Plant swap

Gardeners and plant-lovers will get together from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Uptown Gig Harbor to swap plants, seeds, tools, gardening books and even advice. Expect to find dahlia tubers, seed potatoes, veggie starts, pots and more. The swap takes place in the south parking lot at HomeGoods.

Waterfront walk

The Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance hosts a “Pints, Myths and Maritime Spirits,” which delves into the town’s maritime future, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9. The walk includes stops at Skansie Brothers Netshed, Harbor WildWatch and other historic sites. All ages are welcome. Tickets are $10 for kids 12 and younger or $30 for adults. Buy them here.

Spring celebration social

The senior program of Peninsula Metropolitan Park District hosts a get-together with live music and refreshments from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at Rosedale Hall, 8205 86th Ave. NW. Register here.

Fun and games

Hidden Harbor Wine Library, 8805 N. Harborview Dr. suite 204, has bingo at 4:30 p.m. Mondays and a canasta party for all experience levels at 4:30 p.m. Thursdays.

The Beer Vault will hold a cribbage tournament at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 12, with prizes for first and second place. It’s for casual players, seasoned pros or beginners who want to learn.  The Vault is at 14004 Purdy Dr.

Locust Cider has a full slate of activities this week, with the monthly women’s pinball tournament at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9; a Hot Mic comedy competition at 7 p.m. Friday, April 10; and a speed jigsaw puzzle competition and puzzle swap from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 12. Locust Cider is at 3207 57th St. Ct., next to the Inn at Gig Harbor.

Live music

The Harbor Ukulele Group meets at 11 a.m. Saturdays at the library, 4424 point Fosdick Drive. All players are welcome.

Studebaker, based in Purdy, turns life’s lessons into music at Olalla Winery on Friday, April 10. On Saturday, Gig Harbor’s Thea Wescott teams with Steve Fearey to play down-to-earth originals and fun covers. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. for both shows. Tickets are $20 here.

Kimball Coffeeshop has Billy Stapleton’s Powerhouse Band at 7 p.m. Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. Kimball also has an open mic every Thursday, with signups at 5:30 p.m. Kimball is at 6659 Kimball Dr.

Nancy Erickson Lamont brings a jazz vibe to the Olalla Community Hall Saturday, April 11. The evening starts with a potluck at 6 p.m.; music follows at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door at 12970 Olalla Valley Road S.E.

Absinthe Minded takes the stage at The Float, 14511 Sherman Dr. in Purdy, with classic rock, bluesy-rock and pop-rock. Music starts around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11.

Locust Cider hosts the jazz-rock trio The Ready Vessels, at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 11. Location is 3207 57th St. Ct. next to the Inn at Gig Harbor.

At the movies

The Flashback Cinema movie at the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown on Wednesday, April 8, is “Pride and Prejudice,” showing at 6 p.m. On Sunday, April 12 the Flashback movie is “E.T.,” playing at 4:15 p.m. Flashback movies are just $5.

Ballet lovers will enjoy the big-screen version of “Giselle” performed by The Royal Ballet at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 12, and at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, at the Galaxy.

The Galaxy’s Classic movie on Monday, April 13 is “Singing in the Rain” with Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. Showtime is 10 a.m. Galaxy Classics are just $5.

The Galaxy has a Mystery Movie Monday at 7 p.m. April 13. It’s a surprise film, the title of which isn’t revealed until showtime. Mystery movies are just $5.

Civic engagement

The Gig Harbor City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, at the Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St. Tentative agenda items include a presentation by the Junior Sailing team; a proclamation of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month; 2026 Brandani-Killilea Creative Endeavor grant expenditures; and a resolution naming the Richard H. Shaw Loop Trail.
