Harbor Happenings | Honor veterans on Tuesday
Gig Harbor will celebrate Veterans Day at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Gig Harbor Vintage Aero Museum, 1108 26th Ave. NW.

The gathering will honor the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, Navy and Marine Corps with speeches, music, a color guard flag ceremony, lunch and more. Veterans will be admitted free. Tickets are $17.65 for non-veterans.

Golden Age of Yachting
The Gig Harbor BoatShop hosts a presentation titled “Puget Sound’s Golden Age of Yachting,” featuring photographs by Kenny Ollar, at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.
Ollar spent decades shooting photos of wooden boats in the Puget Sound as they were built, launched, raced and cruised. Ollar documented Swiftsure Lightship Classic races, hydroplane races, opening day celebrations and races involving iconic boats like Blanchards, Stars, and Thunderbirds whose roots are in Gig Harbor.
Ollar’s photos are now part of the BoatShop’s Northwest Fleet Photo Collection, where they are being digitized and preserved. Richard Gray and Jan Hein will lead Thursday’s presentation. Tickets cost $10. Purchase them here.
Book discussion
The Gig Harbor Literary Society meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Harbor History Museum to discuss “Red Paint: The Ancestral Autography of a Coast Salish Punk” by Sasha taqʷšəblu LaPointe. It’s an account of growing up as part of the Upper Skagit and Nooksack Indian tribes, and also being part of the 1990s punk music scene. All are welcome, whether or not you’ve read the book. The museum is located at 4121 Harborview Drive. It’s open during road construction.
Indulge in wine
Enjoy libations from Olalla Winery, Wet Coast Brewing, Locust Cider, Tana Coffee and other local producers at the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s Indulge Sip and Savor fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Gig Harbor Vintage Aero Museum, 1108 26th Ave. NW. More wine tasting
Two Loons Winery will offer samples of five of their locally produced vintages from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. This week’s tasting features the winery’s 2023 Field Blend, 2018 Syrah, 2018 Petit Verdot, 2019 Loon Labs Cabernet and 2019 Loon Labs Cab Franc. Two Loons is located at 9422 22nd Ave. NW.
Write in the Harbor
The annual Write in the Harbor conference takes place Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8 at Tacoma Community College’s Gig Harbor campus with the theme “Craft. Creativity. Connection.” Gig Harbor Now will preview the event later this week.
Flash mob to save former Masonic Lodge
As the city of Gig Harbor considers the future of the former Masonic Lodge — including possibly demolishing the building — supporters of preserving the building will gather for a flash mob photo at noon Sunday, Nov. 9, at the lodge, located on Vernhardson Street adjacent to Crescent Creek Park. The public is welcome to participate in the photo.
Wreath sale
The Gig Harbor High School Band Boosters’ annual wreath sale is in progress. Purchase a fresh evergreen wreath or other evergreen decoration, each accented with cones and berries. The selection includes traditional wreaths ranging in price from $22 to $39; Nobel fir candy canes or crosses – $38; 15-foot cedar garlands – $36; mixed evergreen swags – $22. Live music
The choirs from Kopachuck Middle School and Gig Harbor High School perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the GHHS auditorium, 5101 Rosedale Street. The concert is free, with open seating.
The Grifting Cowboys will play “comfort country” tunes at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Olalla Winery with covers of tunes by Hank Williams, George Jones, The Eagles, Dwight Yoakum and Jimmy Buffett. Tickets are $20 here.
The Beer Vault has music bingo at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5. Friday, Nov. 7, is open mic night at the Beer Vault, hosted by Shawn Pratt of Northwest Chill. All ages and skill levels are welcome, although musicians under 21 must be accompanied by an adult. The venue is located at 14004 Purdy Drive..
Kimball Coffeehouse has an open mic every Thursday, with signups starting at 5:30 p.m.
Hidden Harbor Wine Library hosts music bingo Saturdays from 4 to 6 p.m. They’re located at 8805 N. Harborview Dr. Suite 204.
Locust Cider, 3207 57th Street Court has an open mic every Monday from 6-to-9 p.m.
At the movies
This week’s Flashback Cinema movie at the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown is “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” It’s a fun romcom starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Showtime is 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. Monday, Nov. 10, the Galaxy has a Mystery Movie at 7 p.m. for movie buffs who like unexpected gems and a fun night out. Flashback movies and Mystery movies are just $5.
For opera lovers, the Galaxy is showing the Metropolitan Opera’s big-screen performance of “La Boheme” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. Set in Paris in the 1830s, it tells the stories of the “Bohemians” – three friends and the women in their lives.
Civic engagement
Attorneys from TacomaProBono will offer free, confidential guidance on issues such as housing, employment, landlord-tenant issues, family law and more Wednesday, Nov. 5, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Civic Center, 3510 Grandview Street.
The Gig Harbor City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at the Civic Center. Agenda items include the first reading of an ordinance amending the 2025-26 budget; approval of an ordinance adjusting utility rates; approval of a contract with Gordon Thomas Honeywell for lobbying service, and a comprehensive plan technical amendment for Summer Lane wastewater.
