Anthony’s paid $4.6 million for Tides Tavern, which is now closed for a month for maintenance
The Tides Tavern, recently acquired by Anthony’s Restaurants, is closed for a month for kitchen maintenance.
The Gig Harbor institution made the announcement in a Facebook post on Monday, Jan. 26.
Anthony’s announced on Jan. 13 that it was purchasing the Tides from the Stanley family of Gig Harbor. Peter Stanley and his son, Dylan Stanley, owned The Tides for 53 years.
Seattle-based Anthony’s owns 32 restaurants in the Pacific Northwest, including one on North Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor.

Records filed with Pierce County show that Anthony’s paid $4.6 million for two parcels associated with The Tides. Pierce County assesses the property itself to be worth $1.86 million.
Anthony’s also assumed a tidelands lease with the state Department of Natural Resources that allows customers to tie up at the dock outside the Tides.
Pierce County made a little over $130,000 in real estate excise taxes on the transaction.
The sale closed Jan. 26, the same day the Tides announced the kitchen closure.
The Facebook announcement sought to assure customers that the “Tides is remaining Tides,” and the closure is only for “regular kitchen maintenance.” Anthony’s did not reply to an email seeking clarification on the closure.
On Tuesday, Jan. 27, trucks for plumbing and painting contractors were in the parking lot of The Tides.
