Gig Harbor Now to publish free obituaries

Gig Harbor Now will begin publishing free obituaries on Wednesday, May 25.

The nonprofit, community-supported news website will publish obituaries at no cost for anyone who lived in or had a connection to the greater Gig Harbor area.

That includes people who lived in the area, either at the time of death or previously; who graduated from or attended school in the area; or who have another connection to Gig Harbor, such as survivors who live here.

Obituaries can be up to 5,000 characters long, which is typically 800 to 1,000 words. They must be submitted by a surviving family member or by a funeral home. For verification purposes, either a death certificate or contact information for a funeral home must be submitted with the obituary.

Gig Harbor Now typically will not edit submitted obituaries, though we reserve the right to make minor grammatical or spelling corrections. 

Obituaries will be published every Wednesday. To ensure an obituary is published on a particular Wednesday, it must be submitted by 8 a.m. on the previous Tuesday.
