Rotary clubs announce STAR Award honorees

Three Gig Harbor Rotary clubs announced Rick Bennett, Wallace and Cammie Watts, and Timothy Kezele as their 2023 STAR Award honorees. STAR awards recognize non-Rotarians who exemplify Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.”

The clubs will honor the STAR award winners during a banquet on Feb. 2. Proceeds from the banquet support charities designated by the STAR award winners.

The honorees

The Rotary Club of Gig Harbor honored Bennett for his years of volunteering for the Washington Trails Association, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting and enhancing hiking trails throughout the state. Rick’s designated charity of choice is the Washington Trails Association.

Midday Rotary Club selected Wallace and Cammie Watts, known as Captain Seahawk and KamHawk, for their efforts to address food insecurity and homelessness. Their designated charity is the United Indians of All Tribes Labateyah Youth Home.

Tim Kezele

The Gig Harbor North Rotary Club’s STAR is Tim Kezele, known for his service to the Key Peninsula community through the Historical Society, Key Peninsula Parks, the Civic Center, the Mustard Seed Project, and more. Tim’s designated charity of choice is the Key Peninsula Civic Center Association.
