Photo gallery: 2022 Maritime Gig Festival Grande Parade
It did not, in fact, rain on the Grande Parade. Sunglasses, not umbrellas, were needed for opening day of the 2022 Maritime Gig Festival.
Despite an ominous forecast, the rain held off long enough Saturday that almost none of the candy handed out got wet.
Thousands thronged the sidewalks of Harborview Drive in downtown Gig Harbor to join the festivities. The main event on Saturday, the Grande Gig Parade, was indeed a “Celebration,” the theme for the 25th Gig Festival — and the first held since 2019 thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The festivities continue on Sunday. Highlights on Sunday include the Wheels on the Water car show and the Blessing of the Fleet.
