Milkvue closes up shop, but still produces donuts for other stores

Posted on May 20th, 2026 By:

The owners of Milkvue donut shop announced on social media this week that they were closing their shop at the Point Fosdick Square shopping center in Gig Harbor after seven years in business. Milkvue’s future is in wholesale sales, the post said.

By Wednesday, all that remained inside the store were boxes and some donut operations in the back.

The shop, next to the new Ivar’s Seafood Bar, featured unique flavors of donut like ube and green tea mochi flour donuts. Mochi donuts are a hybrid between cake donuts and chewy Japanese mochi rice cakes made from glutinous rice.

Rising costs

“We’ll focus on the wholesale side of the business,” said Seung Bum Kim, one of the owners of the business. “We’d love to stay, but with rising costs of labor and rent, we had to make this decision.”

The store closed on Sunday, and Kim was at the shop Wednesday closing out operations.

Damian Ahn and Kim founded the shop in 2019, according to Washington Secretary of State’s Office records. At the time, it was the only donut shop in Gig Harbor, Kim said.

Rollie Nelson now owns the business with Kim.

Milkvue’s donuts and ice cream will still be available at the Metropolitan Market, Olympic Coffee, Uwajimaya, Seattle Fish Guys and several other shops, cafes and markets, according to the notice. Kim plans to meet with buyers from the Metropolitan Market to see about expanding the flavor line.

“We’ve been hearing from a lot of our customers and a lot of them know we’re closed now,” Kim said. “Ever since Fusion donuts opened in Gig Harbor, sales have been down and it cut into our business.”

Fusion Cafe and Lounge opened in 2025 at 3110 Judson St. in the Peninsula Shopping Center.

The Point Fosdick Square lists the 1,100 square foot shop for lease. Milkvue was one of several available spaces for lease at the center.
