Fire damages homes being built at new development

A fire heavily damaged two houses under construction near the corner of Hunt Street and 38th Avenue early Sunday, according to Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One social media posts.

No injuries were reported. Investigators are currently trying to determine the cause of the fire.

It was the third major fire Gig Harbor firefighters responded to since Friday.

An 80-foot yacht burned and partially sank early Friday at Peninsula Yacht Basin on North Harborview Drive. Firefighters also battled a blaze Friday afternoon on the 9700 block of Vernhardson Place, not far from the boat fire.

Sunday’s fire took place in a new neighborhood, known as The Cove, being developed by Gig Harbor-based Rush Construction.

Gig Harbor Fire prevented the flames from spreading to occupied homes nearby and other houses still under construction in the neighborhood.
