A 72-year-old Gig Harbor man died Thursday in a collision with a South Kitsap School District bus, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Sidney and Spruce roads, just north of the Pierce-Kitsap county line, around 4 p.m. Thursday. The bus contained no students at the time of the crash.
According to a Kitsap Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, the 72-year-old driving a silver pickup was traveling west on Spruce Road. It failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of a bus going north on Sidney.
The Kitsap County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the driver as Steven J. Deluca of Gig Harbor.
The bus driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision, the Facebook post notes, though the investigation continues.
