Gig Harbor Police Blotter | Passer-by makes off with dropped cash
Editor’s note: The Blotter is written based on information provided by Gig Harbor Police , Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
A 26-year-old Gig Harbor man dropped $300 in cash in a grocery store parking lot, a mistake he noticed just in time to see someone picking the money up.
The man told police the cash was in a money clip, which fell out of his back pocket as he walked back to his car. He and his girlfriend saw a woman picking something up where they had just walked. That’s when the man checked for his money clip.
They confronted the woman, who claimed she hadn’t picked up the cash and drove off.
Store security footage confirmed the 26-year-old’s account, but didn’t provide a clear enough image to identify the suspect.
Get that boat outta here
An officer told the owner of a boat at Jerisich Dock to move it or face it being declared derelict.
The boat had been at the dock for at least 10 days without its moorage being paid, the officer wrote told its owner on Nov. 16.
The officer wrote in a report on the incident that he issued several infractions for the boat since Nov. 2. He cable-locked the vessel and called its registered owner.
The owner, a Gig Harbor woman, said she was unaware of the infractions but was trying to move the vessel. The officer asked her to contact the city to pay the fines and get the cable lock removed.
Man leaves bike behind as he flees
A 26-year-old man abandoned his bicycle and his backpack as he fled police early on the morning of Halloween.
An officer spotted the man riding a bicycle across Olympic Drive at about 12:45 a.m. Oct. 31. The bicycle lacked a front light or rear reflector, a violation of law, and was barely visible on a dark, foggy morning.
The officer stopped the man, who is homeless. A check of records revealed that he is the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant for drug possession.
The 26-year-old told the officer that he needed to go and began to walk away with the bicycle. The officer grabbed him by the backpack, which the subject slipped out of and fled.
The officer last saw the man running down the Cushman Trail. Police opted not to pursue him, because the dark conditions would pose a safety risk.
Police kept the backpack and the bicycle, an orange Magna, for evidence. The bicycle’s serial number was partially scraped off, so police couldn’t confirm if it was stolen.
Officers forwarded a report of the incident to city prosecutors.
$2,000 shoplift
Two suspects made off with $2,000 worth of beauty supplies from the Ulta store in Olympic Village on Nov. 1.
A man and a woman walked into the store around 7 p.m. Both grabbed Ulta bags, and the man stopped to talk to a store employee, who suspected he was trying to distract her. Meanwhile, the woman put items in her bag.
The woman later walked out without paying. While store employees responded to her, the man filled his bag and also left without paying.
Employees provided only vague descriptions of the suspects. Police searched the area but did not locate them.
