Five dead in incident near Lake Kathryn

Five people, including a suspect, died in an incident on the Key Peninsula near Lake Kathryn on Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to an address on 87th Ave Court Northwest around 9:30 a.m. A deputy reportedly shot and killed a suspect who had fatally stabbed four other people. Deputies called Key Peninsula Fire units to the scene immediately after.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident, according to publicly available police scanner traffic.

Key Peninsula Fire posted on Facebook that it responded to a “Major incident north of Lake Katherine involving multiple agencies and law enforcement. Traffic will be impacted on State Route 302, update to follow.”

The incident began when a 911 caller reported a no-contact order violation around 8:45 a.m. Deputies were on their way to the scene to serve the order, according to the sheriff’s office.

More people called 911, reporting that a man had stabbed multiple people.

Deputies arrived and one shot the suspect, who was 32 years old.

The Pierce County Force and Investigation Team will investigate the incident. The multi-agency PCFIT investigates uses of force involving law enforcement agencies in Pierce County.
