A 42-year-old Gig Harbor woman died in a collision at the intersection of Burnham and Purdy drives on Wednesday, Feb. 18, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The collision occurred at about 3:30 p.m. and blocked traffic in Purdy for more than four hours. The State Patrol did not identify the deceased driver, pending notification of next of kin.

The 42-year-old woman, driving a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, attempted to turn left from Burnham Drive onto northbound Purdy Drive. Two vehicles going south on Purdy Drive – a GMC Yukon and a Jeep Cherokee — hit the Jetta in the intersection.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.

Medics took a passenger in the Jetta to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma. The driver of the Yukon was taken to St. Anthony Hospital, while the driver Cherokee did not sustain injuries.
