Mariners claim Gig Harbor grad Toglia
Gig Harbor High School graduate Michael Toglia is coming home.
The Seattle Mariners claimed Toglia off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, Oct. 2. The team put the 2016 Tides alumnus on its 40-man roster and he will compete for a role in 2027 spring training.
Toglia has had an up-and-down existence since making his Major League debut with the Colorado Rockies in 2022. The switch-hitting first baseman-outfielder shuttled between Class AAA and the majors ever since.
He has played 290 games over five Major League seasons, batting .198 with a .384 slugging percentage an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of .659. He has 42 career Major League home runs and 109 RBI in the big leagues.

In seven minor league seasons, Toglia hit .258 with 119 homers and 385 RBI in 517 games.
Toglia has played first base, right field and left field in the Majors.
The 28-year-old played in 10 games with the Reds last season after being promoted to the big leagues in August. He suffered a shoulder injury and missed the remainder of the season.
Toglia had a productive year at Class AAA Louisville before his injury, slugging 22 home runs and driving in 65 runs.
He bounced between the Colorado Rockies and the AAA affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, for four seasons. The Rockies designated him for assignment in November 2025, and the Reds signed him in January 2026.
The Rockies drafted Toglia twice — after his senior year at Gig Harbor in 2016 and again in 2019 after he played collegiately at UCLA.
