Gig Harbor Paddlers Cup returns; Dragon Boats set for Sunday

The Gig Harbor Paddlers Cup returned Saturday after missing the past two years due to Covid-19. The event continues Sunday, April 24, with the Dragon Boat races.

Sunday’s racing starts at noon with the Awaken the Dragon ceremony. Racing starts at 1:30 p.m.,with the championship heats at 3 p.m.

Nine Dragon Boat teams are expected to race: Poetic Peace Paddlers Windermere Abode,  One Hope Church, PenMet Parks, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, University of Puget Sound,  AR Workshop Gig Harbor, Innovative Fitness and the city of Gig Harbor.

The Inner Harbor races, for canoe, kayak, outrigger canoe, para-canoe, and stand-up paddleboard racers, were Saturday.
