The state soccer tournament begins on Friday, but first there are four play-in games earlier in the week to fill the final berths. Peninsula is involved in one of them. The 15th-seeded Seahawks (12-6-0) host No. 18 Cheney Wednesday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to face second-seeded Holy Names on Friday.

Also Friday, district and South Sound Conference champion Gig Harbor (17-0-1) will host the winner of a play-in game between No. 17 Ferndale vs. No. 16 Bonney Lake. Times haven’t been determined.

In volleyball, Peninsula (14-0 South Sound Conference, 15-0 overall) carries the top seed into district play Thursday through Saturday at Capital High in Olympia. The Seahawks will open against Kentlake at 2 p.m. Thursday. Peninsula (9-5, 9-6) will meet Lakes at noon. Seven of the 16 teams will move on to state.

The state girls swimming championships are Friday and Saturday at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
