Lane of Borgen Boulevard closed for emergency repairs

A westbound lane of Borgen Boulevard near Olympus Lane in Gig Harbor is closed for emergency repairs, according to a news release from the city.

Heavy rain over the past six months caused a section of roadway to sink.

The city Public Works Department patched the section multiple times previously, but temporary patching is no longer a viable option. The adjacent curb and gutter also sunk and will need to be replaced.

The city is working on hiring a contractor under an emergency declaration for immediate permanent repair. It’s unknown how long it will take to complete the work. That depends on what the contractor finds during excavation.

“We recognize the timing for this work is far from ideal with the current construction occurring at the intersection of Harborview Drive/Stinson Avenue,” the news release said, “and the City will complete this work as soon as possible to avoid the risk of further repairs and minimize impacts to the public.”
