Jean Marie Lyle-Roberton, of Gig Harbor, passed away on March 21, 2026, at Tacoma General Hospital, in Tacoma, Washington. Born at the same hospital on July 21, 1928, Jean grew up in University Place with her loving parents, Harrold and Verna Morgan, and her brother, Bobby. Having lived through the Great Depression and World War II, trips to the Hood Canal Cabin and making paper dolls with her mother were some of her best childhood memories.

After graduating from Stadium High School, Jean attended the University of Washington in Seattle for one year, before moving back to Tacoma to continue her education at the College of Puget Sound. There, her primary interest of study was English literature and she became a member of the Delta Alpha Gamma sorority. It was also where she met her first husband, Donald Walter Lyle, a classmate from geology who drove a brand-new Chevy convertible. They got married in 1949 and later had four children, Michael Donald Lyle, Patrick Bruce Lyle, Harold Douglas Lyle (Doug), and Kevin James Lyle.

Jean was a very active member in her community. She devoted much of her time to the Gig Harbor Historical Society, where she taught local school children about the collapse of Galloping Gertie, and held multiple roles within her church. Later in life, she held season tickets to the University of Washington’s Husky Football Games and was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles and storytelling. She also enjoyed traveling the world with her second husband, Harold E. Roberton Jr. (Robby), and many of her closest friends.

Jean deeply valued her friends and family, and was survived by her 4 sons and their wives, 10 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She was especially proud to have 3 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will be held at Peninsula Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 22, at 1:00 pm.

Jean will be deeply missed, but the love she shared, the stories she told, and the memories she created will be cherished for generations to come.
