Judiann Weiss Wilbert, beloved wife, educator, gardener, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, after a courageous and determined journey with pulmonary fibrosis. Born on June 29, 1953 in Pittsburgh, Judi lived a life defined by compassion, intellect, resilience, and generosity.

Judi faced her illness with remarkable strength and grace. In 2022, she received the gift of a double lung transplant and worked valiantly alongside her doctors to honor that gift with hope, perserverance, and gratitude.

Judi graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in elementary education and later earned a master’s degree in special education from George Washington University. She devoted her professional life to education and advocacy for children. Judi began her teaching career with Tacoma Public Schools, supporting special education students with patience, creativity, and deep care.

In 1990, she joined Peninsula School District, where her influence extended far beyond the classroom. As a Teacher on Special Assignment, she inspired not only students but also fellow educators. Judi possessed a profound passion for teaching and learning, especially reading instruction. She firmly believed that every child deserved the right support and encouragement to succeed. With this approach, she enhanced the lives of countless students.

Outside of her professional life, Judi found joy and beauty in gardening and decorating her home. She especially loved roses, and her garden on Wollochet Bay became a treasured reflection of her creativity and dedication. Her garden was featured in the Gig Harbor Garden Tour and admired by many in the community. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and generous hospitality.

Judi was also a gifted gourmet cook who delighted in preparing complex recipes with excellent ingredients for appreciative and hungry guests. She and Jeff enjoyed many wonderful adventures sailing and boating with friends. With Judi in the galley, meals were always something special.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Janice Frankel Weiss; her father, David Weiss; and her brother, Dr. Jack Weiss. Judi is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Jeff Wilbert; her sister Beth Weiss Deroo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judi was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed . She brought love, laughter, intelligence, and enthusiasm to all of her endeavors and enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Judi was laid to rest Thursday, May 21st, 2026 at Home of Peace Cemetery.
