Lydia Jonas, 77, passed away on Easter Day, April 20, 2025, after a stroke, surrounded by family. Born in Tacoma to John and Gertrude Topolski she attended Stadium High School, graduating in 1965 and the University of Puget Sound, graduating in 1969. That same year she married Trent Jonas and began her career as an elementary teacher in the Tacoma School District. Lydia and Trent moved from Tacoma to Gig Harbor in 1973, starting a family shortly thereafter. Lydia paused her career, after teaching for several years, to raise her children, then returned to the classroom in the South Kitsap School District where she retired.

A devoted mother and grandmother — often called the “perfect mom” and “perfect grandma” — Lydia was beloved for her straightforward, authentic spirit. She poured her creativity into baking, sewing and quilting, donating countless hours (and quilts) to friends and charity. Friends around the country still treasure her hand-sewn napkins.

Lydia cherished time with friends and family and never missed a sports game, cheering on her children and grandchildren with homemade cookies in hand each time. She enjoyed boating on Puget Sound and loved time with friends by the beach. She could occasionally be spotted riding on the back of Trent’s Harley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Johnny and Stan Topolski. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Trent; brother Jeff Topolski (Gabrielle) of Portland; daughter Carlie Ransom (Shawn) of University Place; son Ryan Jonas (Cara) of Belgrade, Mt. and two grandsons.

There will be no service at Lydia’s request.

Lydia was a special person touching the lives of those who knew her. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love of family will be treasured by all.
