Letter to the Editor | A thank-you to a responsive city employee
Too many times all we hear are complaints about the what the city is doing. I just want to acknowledge and recognize one of our city employees and his responsiveness to the concern of a citizen.
My sister called the city to complain about the closure of the 38th Ave and 56th St intersection because it is the same day as the large protest expected at Olympic and Pt Fosdick. Jeff Langhelm, the Public Works director for the city, called my sister himself to explain how it happened.
He told her he had set the date a while ago and had checked everything that he could find occurring in the city (including gathering permits) to try to make sure it would not interfere with anything happening. He did not know about the protest.
Had he known about the protest he would have tried to accommodate for it. But it is too late at this point to change things. I just want to recognize that he heard the complaint, recognized the issue, and addressed the concern being raised himself directly to the concerned citizen.
And I think we should acknowledge that we appreciate public employees like him who will address our concerns directly and honestly.
