Letter to the Editor | Government wasn’t exactly the original owner of this land
Kudos to Clark Rowland, volunteer at the Harbor History Museum, for helping residents trace the history of the property they own.
The author of the article states, “Rowland has helped several community members trace transfers of their property all the way back to the government as the original owner.” Perhaps “the government” was the first holder of the white people’s document of ownership. But we all know that before we immigrants arrived and claimed this land for ourselfes, the land was occupied and stewarded by native peoples.
They were the “original owners” for all the land on the Kitsap Peninsula. It’s time to tell the truth on who was here first!
