Letter to the editor: Here’s how to learn about city council candidates

Posted on September 21st, 2023 By: Mary M. Kolar

To Gig Harbor residents, I say: “You make the difference.”

As a new resident of Gig Harbor, there are a few topics that I hear from people who have lived here longer than my husband and me:  The population growth of Gig Harbor, the transportation challenges, and the goal of maintaining this city’s maritime charm are some of the most common concerns. How can you have an impact on these and other Gig Harbor quality of life issues? Vote.

Washington registered voters, over 8,000 in Gig Harbor, will soon be receiving ballots for this November’s elections. Did you know that three City Council seats are on the ballot? Do you know the candidates?

I invite you to join me and other Gig Harbor residents to meet the council candidates, your neighbors, who will be on the ballot. Engage Gig Harbor and the Tacoma/Pierce County League of Women Voters are hosting a meet the candidate event at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Thanks to the generosity of Ron Roark, the event will be at the Club@Boatyard, 3117 Harborview Drive.

Engage Gig Harbor is a non-partisan group formed by neighbors who want to inspire Gig Harbor residents to participate in the civic process while also encouraging more connection with and from our elected representatives.

Please join us for an informal and fun way to get to know our candidates for Gig Harbor City Council:  Mary Barber, Ed Nadler, and Ben Coronado. I look forward to meeting you there.
