Letter to the Editor | Long-term neighbors better than short-term renters
You can call it short term rentals, or any other name, but it is a business that is run out of your house for profit.
There was a time when you could not have a business out of a private residence. Either way realtors and residents are making money turning private properties into hotels.
This leads to the question of who is the watchdog over these properties? Who checks on number of renters, cars, noise, property maintenance? If there are no complaints from citizens living in proximity then there should not be a problem.
If this is the direction the town chooses then so be it, but I would choose to have actual long term neighbors to short term renters. There is still something positive about neighbors that are friends and watch out for one another.
