Letter to the Editor | Build homes first-time buyers can afford
Regarding the proposed Harbor Winds development, strain on traffic has already been mentioned as a concern, which it is. What I am tired of seeing in Gig Harbor are the numerous housing developments consisting of large expensive homes stacked closely together on small lots.
When will developers start building homes that first time buyers have a chance to afford? I realize the profit margin is greater for larger homes on smaller lots, but isn’t there a way or a will to provide more affordable housing for the average buyer? Subsidies, grants, trusts? Some communities are finding ways to do this in other desirable communities. It’s time to start having conversations on how to solve this problem.
