Gig Harbor library to close for building maintenance
The Gig Harbor Library at 4424 Point Fosdick Dr. will close for building maintenance from Sept. 14 through Sept. 26, according to the Pierce County Library System.
Library System Marketing Manager Somer Hanson said the work includes upgrades to electrical systems and data infrastructure and safety improvements for patrons and employees. Aging public computers will be replaced and public areas will get a deep cleaning.
Some recurring events will move to alternative locations.
• Chess Club will move to the Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District Recreation Center, 2524 14th Ave. NW, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on Thursdays, Sept. 17 and Sept. 24
• The kids Dungeons and Dragons club will meet in the back room at Cutter’s Point Coffee, 5500 Olympic Dr. A 101, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.
• A nonfiction book club will meet virtually from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
Library patrons won’t be able to return books at the Gig Harbor branch during the closure, though they can return at other locations. The Pierce library system does not charge late fees.
Patrons also can pick up items placed on hold at any other locations. Hold periods will be extended during the closure.
Public wi-fi will remain available in the parking lot during normal business hours.
The closest alternative Pierce County libraries are at 8905 Key Peninsula Highway in Key Center and at 3609 Market Place W. in University Place. Tacoma Public Library operates a branch just over the Narrows Bridge at 7001 Sixth Ave.
