Power restored after widespread outage hits Peninsula
Peninsula Light customers all over the area experienced a power outage between 11:30 a.m. and about 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
PenLight posted about the widespread outage at 11:30 a.m. By 11:50, the utility identified “an issue with Tacoma Power’s Pearl substation” as the problem.
“Tacoma Power is working to remedy and resolve as soon as possible,” PenLight wrote on Facebook. “Once repaired, restoration process can begin. No ETA at this time as all work together as safely and efficiently as possible.”
Across the bridge, Tacoma Public Utilities’ outage map showed that power was out in Ruston and University Place. More than 12,000 customers on the Tacoma side are without power.
PenLight’s outage map showed practically the entire peninsula impacted.
Peninsula Light buys its power from the Bonneville Power Administration, but that power flows through Tacoma Public Utilities lines. Disruptions to Tacoma Public Utilities routinely kills the lights in Gig Harbor.
