Harbor Happenings | Skansie Park hosts National Night Out, Summer Sounds concert
Get to know your neighbors, first responders and other local organizations from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at “Hello Harbor,” the local version of National Night Out.

National Night Out is an effort to build connections between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. It is held on the first Tuesday of August every year.
In Gig Harbor, the event at Skansie Park will include free hot dogs, activities for kids, ice cream and root beer floats, and more.
The weekly Summer Sounds at Skansie concert will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in conjunction with Hello Harbor. A Flock of 80s performs this week.
Rockin’ Rhythm and Blues Festival
The Rockin’ Rhythm and Blues Festival starts at noon Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Gig Harbor Sportsman’s Club.
The event, which supports the Permission to Start Dreaming Foundation, features CD Woodbury; Budapest West; Roemen and the Whereabouts; The Profits; Soulful 88’s; Mr. Blackwatch; HD Fusion; The Gigsters and King Kom Beaux.
The event also includes food vendors and a beer and wine garden. Tickets cost $33.85 and can be purchased here.
The Gig Harb0r-based Permission to Start Dreaming (PTSD) Foundation supports veterans and first responders who experienced trauma in the line of duty.
Wild Feminine Wellness Faire
The Wild Feminine Wellness Faire is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Crescent Creek Park.
Organizers bill the event as “a day of healing, expression and connection.” It includes wellness workshops, holistic healing experiences and a variety of vendors, including chair massage and therapeutic services, permanent, clasp-free jewelry, and more. Join in creating an earth altar and a mandala to honor nature and connections. The event is free, with suggested donations for workshops.
Farm Tour
Olalla Winery is one of the stops on the third annual Kitsap Farm Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10. The winery will host wine tastings, a display of antique tractors, kids activities, a self-guided tour of the vineyards and more.
Preschool open house
Curious by Nature, a nature-based preschool with a focus on outdoor learning experiences, will host an open house on Monday, Aug. 11 at both campuses. The main campus ls located at 7191 Wagner Way NW, Suite 101. The Crescent Valley Campus is at 13302 Crescent Valley Drive on the banks of Crescent Creek.

PenMet Parks offers free, kid friendly activities at a different location from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday during the summer.

Candy Shoppe brings their rendition of favorites from Motown ABBA, Earth Wind and Fire, Donna Summer, the B-52s and others to an outdoor concert in the vineyard at the Olalla Winery at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m. Reserve tickets here.
The Taylor Harding Blues Band plays at Kimball Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m. Free and family friendly.

At the movies
Friday’s Movie in the Park at Sehmel Homestead Park is “Moana 2” showing at 9 p.m. on Aug. 8.
Wednesday’s Flashback Cinema at the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown is The Blues Brothers showing at 12:05 and 6 p.m. On Sunday, Aug. 10 it’s Fellowship of the Ring, the first chapter in director Peter Jackson’s trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy novels. Fellowship plays at 1:15 and 6:15 p.m. Flashback movies are just $4.
The Summer Fest movie at the Galaxy on Wednesday, Aug. 6 and Thursday, Aug. 7 is “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” showing Wednesday at 9:35 a.m. and at 10 a.m., and at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Starting Friday, Aug 8, the Summer Fest movie is “Trolls Band Together” playing at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8; 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10; 10 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11; and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. Summer Fest movies are just $2.
For opera lovers, the Met Summer Encore on Wednesday, Aug. 6 is “Lucia Di Lammermoor” with soprano Nadine Sierra as the haunted heroine Lucia. Showtimes are 1 and 6:30 p.m.
Civic engagement
The Gig Harbor City Council will meet for a study session at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in the Civic Center on Grandview Street. Agenda items include reports from engineering and parks department staff. Starting Aug. 7, the council allows public comment at study sessions.
Mayor Mary Barber will host a Coffee with the Mayor from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Davenport Coffee, 5275 Olympic Drive.
The city council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11. Tentative agenda items include a public hearing on an ordinance related to Transportation Impact Fees and adoption of new sign codes and business license fees. The council will also hear a report from the Police Department on annual crime statistics. Council meetings take place at the Civic Center and can also be accessed via Zoom.
