MultiCare eliminating pain management services at Gig Harbor campus in August

MultiCare will no longer offer medical pain management services in Gig Harbor, Tacoma and Kent starting Aug 12.

Scott Thompson, a spokesperson for the Tacoma-based health care company, confirmed the closure in an email to Gig Harbor Now. The company did not answer questions about how many staff and patients will be impacted.

“This decision follows careful consideration and reflects ongoing efforts to ensure our services meet community needs in a sustainable way,” he said.

MultiCare provides pain management services at its medical park at 4545 Point Fosdick Drive in Gig Harbor, near the city’s Uptown neighborhood. 

In a letter to patients shared with Gig Harbor Now, Multicare wrote they determined based “on utilization and other factors” that the best path forward was to connect patients with other primary care providers and community resources.

“We recognize how important pain management is to patients’ health, and we understand how this change may be concerning,” Thompson said. “Our priority is to support patients through a safe and compassionate transition, including helping them connect with primary care providers and other resources for ongoing care.
