Letter to the Editor | Commercial fishing fleet deserves its own dock

Posted on August 17th, 2026 By: Rose Mary Micheli

I was outraged when I read on your reporting of the city council meeting regarding this project that Council member Julie Martin “asked whether commercial fishing vessels and non-commercial vessels could cohabit”. The commercial fisherman of Gig Harbor, who built this town, have been waiting for over 10 years for this dock. They have been squeezed out of their moorage by all of these recreational vessels that now inhabit our Harbor.

I was concerned when Julie Martin was elected to the council because of all of her connections with the realtors and developers and the wealthy who buy from them. And now I am really concerned that she’s even suggesting that our commercial fisherman could be pushed out again by non-commercial vessels.

I hope the city council understands that this is not an acceptable concept.
